Teeth Whitening
We can have naturally occurring yellow teeth or have them yellow with age when enamel is worn down, the inner layer of our teeth, the dentin – which is yellow in colour – begins to show through.
Teeth stains are inevitable due to our consumption of a variety of foods and drinks as well as ageing. Luckily, Dr Chodree offers dental bleaching or teeth whitening solutions to rid you of stained and discoloured teeth.
What is teeth whitening?
Almost all professional teeth whitening methods are similar in concept, but some are much more effective due to the way in which whitening materials are delivered to the teeth and the concentration of the material.
What teeth whitening options are there?
The two main methods of professional dental whitening are tray whitening and in-office whitening. These two methods are options for those who have discoloured and stained teeth due to extrinsic factors. Tray whitening requires an impression to be taken of your teeth so that a custom mouth tray or plate can be made. Once the tray is made, a whitening gel is given to the patient to insert into the tray and wear on the teeth for a few hours a day until the desired shade of white is achieved.
In-office teeth bleaching is the most efficient way to whiten teeth and is done during one session in Dr Chodree's offices. The best option for you will depend on the state of your teeth and the desired whiteness. No method of teeth whitening is permanent and requires maintenance or "touch-ups" for a prolonged effect.
Teeth that are discoloured and stained by deep-set intrinsic stains may be aided by dental whitening, however, if this fails the alternative cosmetic solution is dental veneers/crowns.
