What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells made from porcelain or composite, that are applied over the surface of the tooth to correct dental issues such as worn tooth enamel, ill alignment or spacing, tooth discolouration and stains. Veneer teeth are able to create a beautifully natural-looking smile without replacing healthy teeth. The two most common materials used in dental veneers are composite resin and porcelain. Both types of veneers can be fabricated by a dental technician in a laboratory and are bonded to the patient's teeth in a dentist's office. The type of the material chosen will depend on the look you would like to achieve, and Dr Chodree can aid in this decision.

What are veneers used for?

Although dental veneers are deemed cosmetic, they also have qualities that make them prevent further treatments in the future and aid dental health.

Dental veneers can solve some dental issues and are commonly used to fix:

• Chips, cracks, broken and blemished teeth can be made beautiful again with veneers

Are you a candidate for veneers?

Dr Chodree will be able to evaluate your teeth and oral health to decide if you are a candidate for dental veneers. If she finds that veneers are the best option to perfect your smile, she guides you through the design process to give you the teeth you have always wanted. The shape, length and width of your teeth, as well as the colour, will be made exactly as you and Dr Chodree deem best. She will also aid you in deciding whether porcelain or composite resin would be best. Your teeth will then be prepared for the veneers to make them fit perfectly and naturally on top of your teeth.

How are veneers applied?

Your teeth will be prepared for veneers by removing a small amount of the tooth surface to make space for the veneer to be placed on top of the tooth. An impression of the tooth or teeth is then made and sent to the laboratory to design the veneer shells according to your preferences and design.

In the next two weeks, your veneers will be made, and your follow-up appointment will be booked to have them applied.
Dr Chodree will administer a local anaesthetic to make you comfortable during the placement of the veneer/veneers.
